DELHI TOURS

Delhi is on of the most historic capitals in the and two of its monuments- the Qutb Minar and Humayun's Tomb - have been declared Word Heritage Sites. It offers a multitude of interesting place and attrections to the visitors, so much so that it becomes difficult to decide from where to begin exploring the city.

Qutub Minar : The origins of Qutub Minar are shrouded in controversy. Some believe it was erected as a tower of victory to signify the beginning of the Muslim in India. Others say it served as a minaret to the muezzins to call the faithful to prayer. No one can, however, dispute that the tower is not only on of the finest monuments in India, but also in the world.
RED FORT : So called because of the ted stone with which it is built, the Red Fort on of the most magnificent place in the world. India's history is also closely linked with this fort. It was frorth here ht the British deposed the last Mughal ruler, Bhadur Shah Zafar, marking the end of three century long Mughal rule. It was also fromits ramparts that the first prime. Minister of India pandit Jawharlal Nehru, announced to the nation that India was free from colonial rule.
PURANA QUILA : The fort is said to be constructed on the historic site of Inrapratsha (900 BC) by Humayun and Sher Shah. Covering a circuit of about a mile, the walls of the fort have three gates and are surrounded by a mat fed by the river Yamuna.
JANTAR MANTAR : At first sight, the Jantar Mantar appear like a gallery of modern art. It is, however, an observatory. Sawai Jai Singh II of Jaipur (1699 - 1743), a keen astronomer and a noble in the Mughal court, was dissatisfied by the errors of brass and metal astronomical instruments.

HUMUYAN TOMB : The Mughal brought with them a love for gardens, fountains and water. The first mature example of Mughal architecture in India, Humuyan's Tomb was built by the emperor's grieving widow, Haji Begum, in 1565 AD.

JAMA MASJID : Work on the Jama Masjid mosque was begun in 1650 by the Mughal empror Shah Jahan to complement his place at the Red Fort. More than 5,000 workers toiled for six years to complete the largest mosque in India. Every Friday, em[ror and his retinue would travel in state from the fort to the mosque to attend the congressional prayers.

INDIA GATE : Built as a memorial to commemorate the 70,000 India soliders Killed in World War I, India Gate was designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens and completed in 1971.
RAJGHAT : The mortal remains of mahatma Gandhi were cremated on this spot on the west bank of the river Yamuna on the evening of Jaunary 31, 1948 nnbbn

The Temple
The Akshardham Temple Complex in Delhi is the recent addition made to the tourist attraction list of Delhi. The Temple built near the Akshardham Flyover in the East Delhi area, is one of the finest structures built in the modern India.
The Architecture
IIt took about 2 years to build this massive edifice, and got completed on the second last month of 2005. The magnificent Akshardham Temple in Delhi has been constructed under the patronage of the Bochasanvasi Aksharpurushottam

Swaminarayan Sanstha (BAPS) and was inaugurated on November 7, 2005. The temple showcases an azing world of Indian culture through its ornate with 20,000 statues, floral motifs, arches and exceptionally carved pillars. President APJ Abdul Kalam attended the inaugural ceremony and Pramukhswami Maharaj who leads the BAPS formally inaugurated the temple. The temple is built on the lines of the Akshardham Temple in Gandhinagar (Gujarat). The temple complex promises a unique view of the Hindu religion and Indian culture. Lying in the wide-open 100 acres of land, amidst luxuriant lawns adorned with water fountains and carved pavilions, the temple complex stand imposingly on the banks of the serene River Yamuna. A huge amount of 2 billions have been spent to raise this grand place of worship. The main monument is about 141-ft high and houses a striking statue of Lord Swaminarayan. The temple represents a wonderful fusion of pink stone and pure white marble. The pink stone symbolises Bhakti (Devotion) in eternal bloom while the white marble stands for absolute purity and eternal peace.
